MediaWarp’s intelligent CDN solution supports a hierarchical cluster-based architecture that automatically balances load across all the CDN edge nodes without any manual intervention. New nodes can be added to the cluster in a seamless fashion. Moreover, ‘hot content’ is migrated automatically to SSD storage to ensure low latency. The cluster architecture also prevents hotspots and ensures high availability even during individual node failures. The hierarchical, cluster-based CDN architecture can be used to deploy an Origin, Mid-tier and Edge caching solution. The optional Traffic Offload elements comprise the lowest tier, while the GGSNs and the PDN-Gateways form the middle tier in the CDN hierarchy. The Traffic Offload element as well as the GGSNs and PDN-Gateways will offload traffic from the mobile core, transit, peering and metro backbone links. See below for a description of the key features provided in MediaWarp’s Intelligent CDN solution.
HIERARCHICAL AND INTELLIGENT CLUSTER-BASED ARCHITECTURE
MediaWarp’s innovative hierarchical and intelligent cluster-based architecture automatically balances load across all the CDN nodes without any manual intervention. New nodes can be added to the cluster in a seamless fashion. In addition, ‘hot content’ is migrated automatically to solid-state storage to ensure minimal latency. The hierarchical, cluster-based architecture can be used to deploy an Origin, Mid-tier and Edge caching and storage solution. Content will be relayed from one tier to another automatically, and cached as necessary. Caching of popular videos will eliminate stalling often introduced by network congestion, thus improving QoE. MediaWarp automatically manages all placement and provisioning of content across all the nodes to provide the most efficient and lowest latency delivery of rich-media content.

FEDERATED STORAGE AND BANDWIDTH
MediaWarp allows the federation of storage and bandwidth across all the nodes in a single cluster, resulting in significantly increased storage capacity and I/O bandwidth. This intelligent load-balancing feature ensures that there are no bottlenecks in the network and requests for content are distributed and serviced by all the nodes in a cluster in a balanced fashion.

AUTOMATIC CONTENT DISCOVERY
Content can be uploaded or cached at any node at any level of the hierarchy – MediaWarp can automatically discover the piece of content in response to a request. The discovered piece of content is either proxied by the MediaWarp node which received the request or a redirect is sent to the MediaWarp node hosting the content. As a result, the automatic content discovery algorithms simplify the entire content upload process, making it extremely flexible.

SUPPORT FOR MULTIPLE PROTOCOLS
In addition to HTTP Live Streaming, MediaWarp also supports MPEG2 streaming to Set-Top Boxes (STB) as well as Flash streaming to laptops and mobile terminals through HTTP plugins. This functionality enables VOD content to be delivered to multiple screens supporting different protocol formats (such as TV/STB, laptops, tablets and smart phones) from a single node.

RESILIENCY AGAINST FAILURES
The cluster-based architecture prevents hotspots and also ensures high availability during individual node or connectivity failures. MediaWarp’s intelligent content discovery algorithms are stateless and work effectively even after node reboots and process failures.
ANALYTICS
MediaWarp’s detailed management and analytics tools provide visibility into content delivery and usage statistics and overall network traffic patterns. These include streaming rates delivered to users, as well as per-URL, per-user delivery rates. In addition, aggregate content usage and user profile patterns are also provided through analytics tools. |
