MediaWarp can be seamlessly integrated on blades in existing network elements, or deployed on inexpensive, industry standard server and storage solutions. MediaWarp is processor-independent and can be ported onto a Linux environment in less than four weeks. MediaWarp has also implemented an innovative plug-in architecture that allows 3rd parties to develop and integrate plug-ins in order to implement customer-specific features. See below for a description of the key features which enable MediaWarp’s easey integration.
HARDWARE AGNOSTICMediaWarp software is hardware agnostic and runs on any server platform that supports Linux (Intel Nahalem class processors are recommended.) Customers can use their preferred hardware supplier, as MediaWarp is not dependant on any particular brand to achieve the required performance. MediaWarp’s CPU and memory requirements are minimal which means MediaWarp and the customer’s software can run together on the same equipment. Some customers will have very large libraries and small bandwidth requirements, which means they will need large amounts of storage. Others will have small libraries with hot content that requires high bandwidth. Either deployment need can be accommodated with different configurations of SATA & SSD drives.
OPEN SOFTWARE ARCHITECTUREMediaWarp is not an open source solution, but heavily leverages open source software. Integration is quick and easy because we leverage well-tested software components that use standardized interfaces. Files are transferred between systems using HTTP and MediaWarp communicates using a REST interface. As MediaWarp extends a standard file system, so upload and management of content files can use standard transfer protocols like FTP, CIFS and NFS. This makes integration into existing environments flexible, fast and easy. With our use of HTTP, there is no “fork lift” upgrade of your existing legacy storage. Instead, MediaWarp enables a customer to extend their existing investment. VidScale engineers incorporated a plug-in architecture allowing for quick extension and enhancement of MediaWarp to provide tailored solutions meeting customers’ needs.
PLUG-IN ARCHITECTUREThe Plug-in architecture gives our customers the flexibility to quickly and easily add custom or proprietary functionality to the MediaWarp platform. Examples include a single use URL, white and black lists to effect transparent caching policy, a filter that decides what content should be proxied versus redirected, and even data transformations of delivered content The possibilities are endless! Customers can ask VidScale to develop custom functionality or they can do it themselves. |
